MANAGER, SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Location: GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
Our client, is a non-profit organization that collects and recycles materials is seeking a Manager of Safety and Compliance to join their team in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The person in this position can work from home. Salary Range $65-95K plus bonus.

DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Officer, the Manager of Safety and Compliance develops and implements programs and operational solutions that help the organization meet and maintain its safety and compliance objectives. 

The Manager of Safety and Compliance is responsible for monitoring regulatory changes and 

ongoing business operations including the conditions of facilities and materials to drive the

effectiveness of all safety & compliance programs. 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide safety and compliance support for the organization as a whole. 

• Develop and execute processes and standard operating procedures for the proper collection, 

transportation, recycling and potential disposal of battery and eWaste related products.

• Serve as a liaison, expert resource and point of contact for governmental contacts, customers 

and other stakeholders.

• Oversee the safety and compliance of Call2Recycle’s recycling services.

• Develop and maintain strong familiarity with the organization’s recycling operations. 

• Participate in the development of a range of strategies, policies and plans that affect the organizatio 

and its stakeholders.

• Monitor laws and regulations that might affect Call2Recycle’s policies or practices.

• Coordinate and perform recurring site inspections and environmental audits of corporate 

locations and collection site and recycling partner locations in accordance with company 

standards.

• Conduct organization-wide training programs and initiatives to provide education on 

compliance requirements and practices. 

• Develop guidelines documents and other materials intended to document safety and 

compliance programs.

• Maintains positive relationships with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and other 

regulatory audiences. 

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Qualifications • Minimum five years of related experience.

Skills & Abilities


• Bachelor’s degree in field of scientific study or equivalent 

experience. 

• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. 

• Hazardous Material certification a plus.

• R2/ISO/OSHAS experience required.

• Experience with regulatory agencies required (US EPA, US DOT, 

TC, EC, OSHA, etc.) 

• Demonstrated knowledge of safety and compliance principles, 

practices and measurement.

• Hazardous waste and or project management experience.

• Knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues 

preferred.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel.

• Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software 

experience; 

 SalesLogix preferred.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills; self-directed.

• Learn complex industry quickly, and succinctly articulate 

complex processes and legislative requirements.

• Manage (“hands on”) critical operational functions.

• Excel in performance-driven, metrics-driven environment.

• Identify process improvement opportunities and generate 

innovative solutions.
